One of the perks of the Spring DCP is that you have Christmas right before your program. One of the hard things about that is that you end up with more stuff to try to pack. The idea of gifting experiences rather than material things is not new, but in this post, I'm going to share some ideas that are CP specific. Annual PassesWhile CPs get into Disney parks for free, Orlando has many more theme parks to offer, and many College Programmers like to visit them on their days off. Most of these parks offer annual passes for fairly affordable prices (compare to Disney). The most popular ones are Universal Orlando and SeaWorld. Gift CardsI recommend gift cards to Disney, Walmart, and Publix. If you don't like giving gift cards, like my family, there are ways to make it more personal. If you've been to central Florida, give a gift card to your favorite local restaurant, store, etc. Or, you could include a little note to ensure the recipient of your gift card is used for fun, write things like "buy something to decorate your apartment" or "use this gift card to enjoy a character breakfast" or something else like that. Another great idea is to get a $30 Disney gift card and a note saying it should be used on The Kitchen Sink Sundae at Beaches and Cream (this is something many CPs want to do). SunpassCPs who drive might not be as worried about limited packing space, but this is still a great gift idea! There are lots of toll booths in Florida, many on the way to work even, so a Sunpass makes driving in Florida easier, you can order them on the website and load them with as much money as you want! Subscription ServicesEven though CPs have access to the parks for free, we still spend lots of time just relaxing so a Netflix subscription never goes unappreciated. CPs don't always have access to all the channels they have at home, so a Hulu subscription can keep them up to date on their favorite shows. Streaming subscriptions aren't the only subscriptions available, there are also subscriptions to many different "boxes" with products in them, there are ones with food, movies, and even ones that'll send you a Disney trading pin each month! MemoriesThe college program produces memories that will last a lifetime. There are gifts that can help keep those memories for years. You can give a gift card to Shutterfly or other programs that print photos and photo books. Another way to keep those memories is with memory maker, a photo service through Disney, that allows you to download all your photos taken by Disney's professional photographers. for 6 weeks. The service is around $150 but can be used to download all the photos belonging to the owner and all his/her friends for 6 weeks without the watermark, this makes meeting characters and taking photos in front of the castle so much more fun! One final way to preserve memories is in a journal. During my first DCP all my friends all wrote notes to one another in our journals, and I treasure those notes. A journal can also be used to write down funny experiences and things you're thankful for. Share this post with your family and friends so they know what to get you for Christmas. As always, if you have questions you can comment below, find me on social media, or contact me on the "about me" tab.
